SXSW 2018 Preview

Come Friday, trailblazers from tech, media, and music will descend upon Austin, TX for the annual SXSW festival. The film, comedy, and interactive aspects of the 10-day event kick off this Friday, with music and gaming commencing the following week. Here’s what you can expect from the 2018 festival!

In its 25th year, SXSW is bringing the Texas heat to the film & TV lineup. The Office alum John Krasinski directed his wife, Emily Blunt, in the festival’s opening feature, A Quiet Place, which is sure to be a box-office topping supernatural horror. Hot off his Oscar win for Get Out, Jordan Peele will be debuting his latest television series The Last O.G. The show follows an ex-con (played by Tracy Morgan) as he acclimates to society after a 15-year prison stint. The cast from this winter’s hottest show This Is Us will be hosting the world premiere of the season 2 finale, in addition to holding a panel on their Emmy-nominated series.

These panels are exclusive, one-of-a-kind experiences, where attendees can gain insight into their interests and career paths. Other hot ticket entertainment sessions include conversations with Spike Lee, Dakota Fanning, and the cast of HBO’s  Westworld. HBO will also be building the entire Westworld town, complete with the Mariposa Saloon and Coronado Hotel for an immersive experience. For those interested in journalism, Jake Tapper, Katie Couric, and Christiane Amanpour will all be hosting different events over the course of the festival. MLB  World Series champion Alex Rodriquez will also be discussing the highs and lows of baseball in an hour-long conversation with CNBC’s Mark Hoffman

If you’re looking for some live experiences, check out the comedy and music aspects of the festival. SXSW will be featuring improv and sketch comedy shows daily. Starting March 12, over 1000+ musicians will be taking over Austin nightlife with nightly performances all week long.
